Millions of Pounds of Concrete Barge Up the Monongahela River →

History was made in Pennsylvania on July 26 as people gathered along the Ohio and Monongahela (Mon) rivers to see for themselves that concrete really could float. The spectacle was definitely something to see as 22 million lbs. (9.9 million kg) of reinforced concrete slowly made a 27.5-mi. (44 km) journey up the river. Contractors ’Shoulder’ Georgia Interstate-16 Widening Project →

Rogers Bridge Company Inc. and Mitchell Construction Co. Inc. of Atlanta, GA, have teamed up to complete a $27.9-million bridge and shoulder widening project along Interstate 16 in Laurens and Treutlen counties. Reeves Construction of East Dublin, GA, also plays a key role in the effort as the project’s paving contractor. Security Equipment Rescues Trench Safety Seminar →

Recognizing the importance of using real-life construction equipment to aid rescue education efforts, a Baltimore construction equipment distributor freely donates its time, equipment and services, all in the name of safety. Recently, Security Equipment Co. donated the use a brand new backhoe – a New Holland LB75, logging more than 25 hours on it – at a Baltimore County Fire Department trench rescue training demonstration. The recycling company that handles the majority of that waste paper obviously has some specific equipment needs to cope with the 130.5 metric tons (145 tons) of office paper it processes daily. The equipment fleet at Filco Carting Corporation, Brooklyn, NY, consists mainly of skid steer loaders and small wheel loaders. Chenango St. Viaduct Makes Comeback →

From Construction Equipment Guide... It will soon be easier to travel to downtown Binghamton from Interstate 81 in Broome County, NY. The New York State Department of Transportation and the city of Binghamton are working together to fund the rehabilitation of the Chenango Street viaduct, which crosses over Conrail’s railroad tracks. They’ve awarded the $1.6-million project to Slate Hill Construction of Warners, NY. Work began in May. The viaduct structure is 436 ft.  Click for more...

Caterpillar Inc. and A.S.V., Inc. have completed a Securities Purchase Agreement in which Caterpillar has purchased 500,000 newly issued shares of ASV common stock at $18 per share for a total of $9 million. Caterpillar has increased its ownership in ASV to about 15 percent. The two companies also announced the signing of an alliance agreement in which they plan to jointly develop and manufacture a revolutionary new product line of Caterpillar rubber track skid steer loaders called Multi-Terrain Loaders.  Click for more...
