MoDOT Opens Route 21 Ahead of Time →

(6.4 km) stretch of Route 21 eight months early. Work has begun on a major component of MassHighway’s Route 128 highway expansion project, a lane-widening effort that will bring rush hour relief to thousands of Boston area commuters. Already under way, following Gov. Deval L. A concrete cutting company located in western United States needed a hydraulic dump trailer, but not just an ordinary dump; it needed one that had a stationary platform in front of the dump box to accommodate its MT52 mini track loader. Working together with Felling Trailers, the FT-10 DT HD-SP was created. The trailer consists of an 8 ft. (2.4 m) hydraulic dump box with a 42 in. wide by 96 in. There is a bridge on Route 1 in Mendocino County that travels over a wide river. It is beautiful, scenic and peaceful — but it is also dangerous, as it is susceptible to collapse during an earthquake. In fall 2010, it will be gone. Bombs to Beetles: VW Builds $1B Plant in Chattanooga →

Following nationwide competition it was announced on July 15, 2008, that a former army site near Chattanooga, Tenn., had been chosen as the location for Volkswagen’s new $1 billion U.S. assembly plant. The facility will manufacture mid-sized vehicles in the United States rather than importing them. Tunnel Boring Machines Core Under Big Apple’s East River →

A long-awaited Metropolitan Transportation Authority project currently under way in New York City is completing the construction of tunnels under the East River to Grand Central Terminal for the Long Island Railroad.
