Following nationwide competition it was announced on July 15, 2008, that a former army site near Chattanooga, Tenn., had been chosen as the location for Volkswagen’s new $1 billion U.S. assembly plant. The facility will manufacture mid-sized vehicles in the United States rather than importing them.
