Case Launches Four New Backhoes →

From Construction Equipment Guide... Case Construction Equipment Sept. 22 launched a complete update of its loader/backhoe product line, introducing four new N Series loader/backhoe models. The event took place at the company’s Tomahawk Customer Center in Tomahawk, Wis. The new Case 580N, 580 Super N, 580 Super N Wide Track and 590 Super N backhoes replace the company’s M Series 3 product line. The new machines all feature 4.5-L, turbocharged engines, ranging from 79 hp (59 kW) in the 580N to 108 hp (80.5 kW) in the 590SN.  Click for more...


Jersey’s J.H. Reid Purchases IT4-Certified Wheel Loader →

From Construction Equipment Guide... New Jersey contracting firm J.H. Reid wanted a wheel loader that would allow it to work in Brooklyn, N.Y., under current and future emissions rules. John Deere responded and offered the firm a solution: the new 304-hp (226 kW) 744K 4WD loader, the construction industry’s first IT4-certified iron over 175 hp (130 kW). Reid took delivery in late August and immediately put the loader to work on a $125-million pre-cast bridge job for the New Jersey DOT in Highlands.  Click for more...


JCB Backhoe Achieves New World Record →

The epic “Backhoe Across America” fundraising trek beat the existing record for “The Longest Journey in an Excavator” by 600 mi. and has secured the company a place in The Guinness Book of World Records. JCB’s newest backhoe loader offers customers average fuel savings ranging from six to 16 percent at typical daily work rates, largely achieved through the introduction of a new EcoDig system incorporating three hydraulic pumps. Helena Roadway Project Gets Good Start →

Just a few months ago, Jason Fenhaus walked up and down Cedar Street in Helena, Mont., visiting the businesses that would be affected by the roadway improvement contract awarded to his employer, Helena Sand & Gravel. The $2.3-million project widens Cedar Street from Montana Avenue to Interstate 15, increasing the roadway from three lanes to five. It is the first phase of the three-part Custer Interchange project, originally recommended by city and county officials more than seven years ago to address increasing traffic volumes on 40-year-old local routes.  Click for more...

It was only fitting that when ground was broken for Spaceport America, the world’s first commercial spaceport under construction about 45 mi. north of Las Cruces, N.M., a small but symbolic quantity of Mother Earth was sent aloft in an amateur rocket to an altitude of a couple of thousand feet. Co. has introduced two Electronic Fuel Injected (EFI) engine-driven twin-cylinder welder generators: The Trailblazer 302 EFI and the Bobcat 250 EFI. Replacing the carburetor with EFI improves fuel economy up to 27 percent, reduces harmful emissions up to 33 percent and eliminates carburetor icing, according to the manufacturer. A special ceremony was held at the company’s global skid steer manufacturing facility in Wichita, Kan. Case presented the 250,000th skid steer to its new owner, Dino Folino of A. Folino Construction, a paving contractor from Oakmont, Pa. The contract for $31 million was awarded by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to English Construction Company, Lynchburg, Va. Funding is coming from the federal government. Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City, has set out an initiative to plant one million trees in New York City over the next 10 years and Mana Construction won the bid to plant 5,600 of them.
